History
In 2001, Datran Media set forth to build a company dedicated towards leveraging the performance power of inbox marketing as a medium for connecting brands with relevant customers. By combining the fundamentals of performance marketing with cutting edge technology and industry leading experts, Datran Media initially created the most efficient marketplace for ad inventory by leveraging the first intelligent ad server for inbox + Web media.
Profitable since its early days, in 2005 Datran Media accepted a $60 million minority investment from VantagePoint Venture Partners.
By 2006, Datran Media had increased its foothold on the inbox marketing industry with the acquisitions of SKYLIST, UnsubCentral and Intwine. The integration of the companies enabled Datran Media to offer the most comprehensive suite of inbox marketing solutions in the world, including both email and social network capabilities. In 2006, Datran Media announced a strategic relationship with Microsoft, which was a key addition to Datran Media's roster of clients including Turner Broadcasting System, IAC/InterActive Corp., eHarmony and over 700 others.
In 2007, Datran Media expanded its performance marketing leadership beyond email as it:
- Launched the first exchange online for both inbox and web media - EO.com
- Announced a global investment in Chinese performance marketing leader, Wanmo
- Acquired Chintano (a targeted ad serving company)
- Secured deals with leading companies including Avenue A/Razorfish, Countrywide, eHarmony, Entrepreneur.com, IAC, Lending Tree, Lycos, Q Interactive, United Online, Rodale and more
- Won an AO top 100 private company award
- Received two best of show client awards for its work with Turner Broadcasting System property NASCAR.com (AD:TECH and Web Marketing Association)
- Announced the launch of Inbox Ad Inventory Management, an ad sales monetization feature that it collaboratively developed with its major Microsoft client
- Brought on board agency, display and email industry veterans Paul Benjou (30 year ad veteran most recently employed by Universal McCann), Scott Knoll (former CEO of BlackFoot and Managing Director for DoubleClick) and Dave Hendricks (20 year email marketing expert with experience at CheetahMail/Experian and InfoUSA)
